These handwoven organic cotton napkins are made by artisans in Gujarat, India. Artisan are paid fair wages and are part of a non-profit that works to bring the market closer to artisans without any middlemen. The non-profit holds workshops on development, innovation and skill training. The organic cotton initiative was introduced to promote local farmers and their traditional farming method, without the use of pesticide. Farmers are paid 15% above the market rate for organic cotton. The organic cotton is dyed with vegetable dye, a traditional method of coloring fabric that only uses natural ingredients.
Block printing is an ancient printing technique. After the wooden block is carved with the pattern, the fabric is then prepared with multiple washes in house to make the fiber ready to take the dye, sometimes going to the local lakeside to wash various fabrics. With the process of multiple printings and washing before the final product is placed in a dye bath of flowers and barks, the fabric goes through the hands of the block printer and dyer with utmost care. That same care is passed onto the consumer who wishes to take part in this process of honoring the craft, workers and the planet.
Gently hand wash for the first few washes. After that, wash on gentle and hang dry.
You may return most new, unopened items within seven days of delivery for a full refund OR you may exchange within two weeks of delivery. However, there is no refund of original shipping cost and return shipping will not be provided. Buyer will be responsible for the return shipping costs.
